Kala Pacha

Kala pacha being served. The heads were cooked in the pot to the right and the "chef" peeled of the meat and put it on plates.

This morning at 7am two Iranian acquaintances (no-one from the hostel dared to join) took me to eat a very traditional Iranian breakfast called Kala Pacha. This dish is only served between 5am-9am and basically consists of sheep head and sheep feets. Yummy.
As you can see on the pictures, all the different parts of the sheep i are separated and deliciously placed on the plate with great care. A pleasure for the eye! Along with the meat (the tongue, brains, eyes, meat from cheeks, feets etc.) its served with bread and a bowl of sheep fat - the cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast.

How it tasted? After bracing myself and while trying to imagine that it was something totally different I was putting in my mouth, the tongue and the meat from the cheeks was actually ok, pretty good even. I tried everything else as well but at the price of almost throwing up. It didn't matter how much I tried to set my mind on "happy thoughts", the thought of eating someone else's thoughts (no pun intended) and eyes was to heavy to overcome. So, even though it probably was "delicious" as my Iranian friends claimed, I couldn't enjoy it. For a second.
However I can at least say that Ive tried it. Dont konw if its something to brag about though...
I wish Erika would have been here, Im sure she would have wanted some.

While writing this I'm in a waiting room, waiting for the Iranian authorities to process my Visa extension so I don't have to stress myself out of the country. While actually posting this I just got my Visa extended 30 days and it didn't took me more than two hours
(!). Most people I've meet have had to wait at least 24h to get it - I think they like Swedes.

Moreover I think I'll leave Esfahan tomorrow morning. Not sure yet though, will try to post something before I leave.
